Since childhood, I have been compelled to make and build, motivated almost entirely by a desire to amuse myself. I was raised by two makers, long before the term existed. Mom's interests included sewing, embroidery, cross stitch, Christmas treats and watercolors, but above all, music. Dad built bunkbeds, a tree house, a screen porch, a detached garage and a skateboard ramp. He drew the plans for my childhood home. Not a back of the napkin sketch. The full-on professional level blueprints of the framing, cabinetry, foundation, plumbing, etc. that the contractor followed to build the home. He drew them. By hand.
Likely of interest to no one, a sample of my creations (from a bridge over a stream to a bejeweled elven dagger) can be seen at the link below. Alas, none are for sale. In all my creative endeavors I am guided by two principles. First, figure it out as I go and second, looks OK from about 10 feet away.
